Result Posting Mechanism (RPM)

Contents

Description

The Result Posting Mechanism (RPM) eliminates the need to print the race order and results by displaying them to a TV screen or monitor. It does this by loading the relevant information from Trackside and allowing anything with a web browser to display it.

Note: even though a web browser is used to display the results, an internet connection is not needed

The application hosts the results in a small webserver. This allows any device on the same network to display the results with a web browser. This makes the app very flexible on how you can get the results onto a screen. The simplest way is to connect a second monitor to the PC running the application. For locations where a cable isn't practical then wireless technologies such as Google Chromecasts or smart TV's can be used to connect to the screen.

The application automatically refreshes itself to update the screen as the event progresses. Whoever is managing the Trackside software at the event will just start the application and select which event to display; it will then run in the background and not need any more interaction during the event.

In the beginning, before moto 1 is complete, riders will be sorted based off of their gate pick. Afterwards, they will be sorted based off of their moto 1 finish. Once moto 2 is complete, the riders will be sorted based off of their overall finish.

Equipment Needed

The application does not need internet to run, it only needs access to the Trackside database. It can run on the same PC as Trackside or another PC that is networked to the PC with Trackside.

When selecting a TV or monitor you should try and choose one that has a high brightness so it is easier to view outside during the daytime. Also, the bigger the screen the larger the text will be so that should be taken into account.
